I think this may be my favorite Avon Brochure cover yet. I love the Christmas in Paris theme this year. It’s just what we need to lift our spirits.

Avon’s Paris themed Christmas is a collection of chic limited-edition goodies full of vintage charm and romance, like Dreamlife Cologne, bottled in a very unique Eiffel Tower spray bottle. The perfume itself is a magical blend of mimosa flower, aspirational rose, and glowing amber. It arrives in a Parisian-themed gift box. How special would this be to give as a gift this year? Avon has released another collection of Iconic Jewelry for Christmas this year. This collection truly has a romantic vintage look and feel. I am definitely eyeballing the Starburst Pin. I think it is going to be my “must-have” item this year. I have really been enjoying wearing brooches again, they’ve seemed to have made a come-back, at least in my heart.

Let’s see, how about some Christmas home decor to swoop you away to France?

I love that they’re calling it Bonjour Decor. It’s so beautiful and luminous. I think my favorite may be the Light-Up Cutout Star. How about you? Which is grabbing at your heart-strings? You can shop the entire collection on pages 16-17.

And my last, but not least, favorite pick from this Parisian excursion of holiday joy, is some makeup, of course! We’re backing it up to Pages 6-7.

Vive Le Makeup! On Page 6 you’ll see the City of Light Illumiator Powders. These little containers are so cute and so fun to use. I got one last year from that season’s style, and I really love it. The little powder puff is adorable and so soft. Very easy to apply color to your cheeks with the fluffy puff, and it’s just different and very feminine. This year’s collection of illuminating powders are delicate and illuminating. They add a lasting touch of radiance to your face and neck areas. The color choices are Charm, Bonjour, and Champagne.

What Colors Look Best on You? Your Personal Color Analysis

Do you know what colors look the best on you? Which are more flattering to your skin tone, eye color, and hair color?

Well, that’s what we’re here to find out.

Performing Color Analysis is something I learned to do many years ago while in Beauty Consultant training. This was in the late 80’s, to give you an idea. The concept of Color Analysis has been around for quite some time now, and is a great way to help you coordinate your wardrobe, your accessories, and your makeup, to enhance your unique complexion.

Using Color Analysis, I learned how to determine someone’s Color “Season”. There are 4 Color Seasons, just as there are 4 Seasons in nature. Winter, Summer, Spring, and Autumn. It’s very fun to experiment and find out your Color Season, so let’s go!

To determine which you are, you can try several different methods that are quick and easy. Firstly, what is your skin’s undertone? Do you have a pink undertone, or are you more golden? Pink will indicate a “cool” undertone, and gold (or olive) indicates a “warm” undertone. You can also check the veins on the underside of your wrists. Are your veins blue, or green? Blue is cool, green is warm.

The next thing I would suggest is color draping. You can use clothes from your closet, or get a variety of clothes in various colors to try out when you’re shopping. But very simply, drape different colors of fabrics right beneath your face to see which colors make your skin color, eye color, and lip color “pop”. Do you look best in reds and hot pinks? Or do you look better in golds and browns? This is one of the quickest tests, using these particular colors. If you have golden undertones, your skin will radiate beautifully in golds and browns, whereas if you have pink undertones, they will be enhanced with the bright pinks and reds.

**Wearing the Right Colors Can Be Magical**

Next, what Season are you?

This will be determined by both 1. your skin undertone (which you will have assessed already if you are cool or warm), plus 2. the lightness or darkness of your hair, eyebrows, and eye color.

If you have a cool, pink undertone and dark features such as dark skin, hair and brows, and dark eyes, you are a Winter. You can also have very light skin with dark features – like me – I am a Winter.

Winters look fabulous in bold cool tones such as black, hot pinks, bright purples, royal blues, and cool reds. The bolder the color the better for you!

Now, if you are cool but have lighter colored hair and eyes, you are a Summer.

You look beautiful in the same color tones as a Winter, but softer. You really rock those soft grays, pinks, lavenders, light blues, and softer reds like raspberry.

For you gorgeous warm toned beauties, if you have darker skin, hair and eyes, you are an Autumn. And again, you may have light skin with dark features and be an Autumn.

The colors that really bring out the warmth in your skin are golden browns, pumpkin, marigold, olive greens, and teal.

On the lighter side of Autumn is Spring. If you have a warm undertone and lighter features, these colors are perfect for you:

Spring is to Autumn as Summer is to Winter – a lighter version of the same color palette.

Springs will shine in lighter browns, warm golds and oranges, softer olive greens and teals.

One thing I must point out, is that black and white are neutral tones and can be worn by all Color Seasons.

I would recommend beiges or off-whites though, over white, for Springs and Autumns. It will enhance your natural coloring better.

Knowing your Color Season is a great way to be a very savvy shopper. You can coordinate your clothing, accessories, and makeup colors much easier. Always look for colors in your Seasonal palette and you’ll be coordinating like a rock star while you magically enhance your natural beauty all at the same time.

One of the first things you may want to shop for after determining your Color Season is your makeup foundation. This is the very first basic stepping stone to enhancing your natural skin tone. Here is the Cashmere Complexion color-chart to help you find the perfect foundation shade for your skin:

The Cashmere Foundations are divided into Light, Tan-Medium, and Deep shades. You will then see each shade begins with either an N, W, or C. These stand for Neutral, Warm, and Cool. Are you warm or cool? I am a cool Winter with very light pink toned skin, so my foundation shade choice is C110 Shortcake. It is a perfect match for me. I love it so much. My natural tone can shine through uninterrupted yet I still get the coverage I need. Check out my blog post all about Cashmere Complexion Foundation.

Another tip for you — if you have a favorite color that you love to wear and it is not in your Color Season palette, no worries, simply put something that is in your color palette close to your face. Try a scarf or jewelry items, or even a bright lipstick that will shine above the other color. There is no need to completely eliminate colors that are not in your palette. Perhaps some pants in your favorite color (that’s not in your palette), teamed with a blouse that is. Just play with it, and have fun!

What is my color season?

Beautiful Brow Techniques

Hello! How are you today? Ready to get those brows going on?

I know I am! Learning to do my eyebrows has been a very fun journey for me. I’ve enjoyed learning about different brow products and brow techniques.

I’ve always had very prominent brows and never really had to use anything other than something to hold them into place, but you know how it is as we mature and things begin to change…

Upside is, we can always learn new things, and learn how to keep our beauty as brilliant as ever!

To begin this journey, I first went to my Avon website and learned about the different types of eyebrow products available and ordered several that appealed to me. The good thing about eyebrow products (at least Avon’s), is that they’re not really expensive, so it is great to get several products to try out.

I’ll go over the different products that I tried for my new look and tell you their price points as well. But first, I’ll share with you the techniques I’ve been learning along the way too. I’ve been watching YouTube videos and reading how-to’s, and practicing.

Here are a few of the first steps to begin with:

Ahead of time tip: Tweeze and keep your eyebrow hairs trimmed. I trim my eyebrow hairs by brushing them upward and then taking my shears and trimming them at the top so that there are no long hairs going crazy.

Then, when you’re ready to do your eyebrow makeup, you will want to brush your brows with your brow brush and have them smooth and ready for product application.

You can measure where your eyebrows should begin, arch, and end, with your eyebrow brush or a pencil. Begin at your nostril – place your pencil upward. This is where your eyebrow should begin. Then from your nostril, halfway through your eye, to find your natural arch, and then from your nostril to the outer corner of your eye, is where your eyebrow should end.

To begin, start by outlining how you want the shape of your eyebrow to be. If you’re not sure, this is where practice makes perfect. Just be patient with yourself and try a little color at a time till you’re comfortable with the amount of product, and the size brow that you think look best for you. This is what took me a little while to to get used to. But I am getting more and more comfortable with having a finished brow look, and am really enjoying it.

I will tell you my favorites, and what I used each for.

Firstly, I really like the Ultra Luxury Brow Liner because it is a very fine-pointed pencil and I can resharpen it, and keep it that way. I like using it for outlining. I can get the perfect definition cleanly using this pencil, and it goes on very easily with no tugging. Do not draw with a straight, precision line though, just kind of lightly flick the pencil on to look more natural.

I like using both the Glimmerstick Brow Definer and the Tattoo Station Brow Pencil as well. They are not quite as thin a point, so they are great for filling in. When I decided to fill in an area underneath the front top of my brow that needed to be colored in and blend with the rest of my brow, I found that the Glimmersticks worked best for this job. I ordered the Tattoo Station Brow Pencil and Glimmerstick in different colors – One is more black/gray and the other more taupe/brown. I like to use them both since my hair is different colors too.

For the Pomade. It goes on very well and is brushable. I personally am not ready to use the little brush that comes with it to draw on an outline or fill in with it, at least till I get a bit better with my technique probably. If you’ve had more experience than I, you will most likely love this formulation. It is waterproof and has a 24 hour wear time. I’m going to keep practicing with this one. It has very good pigmentation, and the color I chose is a brown/gray. Perfect for my hair color.

The last step in completing a brow look is to use the spoolie end of the brow brush to gently blend and soften the product(s) used on the brow. You can do this as you go as well. If you blend too much, you can always go back and add more color where needed. But if you like it just the way it is, omit this step. It’s all about what you think looks pretty on you.

I have to tell you that after I finished my brows, I felt more spunky! I put on some darker lipstick, a bit more eyeshadow, fluffed my hair, and put on my earrings. It changed my whole attitude.

And to me that’s what makeup is all about anyway. Enhancing our natural beauty, and making us feel great. I know that when I feel like I look good, I feel good. It really changes my mood, for the better.

It just dawned on me – my age. I am very thankful that at 55 I’m still enjoying makeup and wanting to look my best – and to keep learning new things in the makeup field. It’s never to early or too late to celebrate our beauty, to appreciate it, and to work to preserve and highlight what we’ve got. I so admire those that are even more mature than I, and seeing them still shining in all their glory, and not giving up at any certain age on being the best that they can be, and that’s what I strive for as well, and to hopefully inspire others along the way.

But this one smells so beautiful. I love wearing it. It is not hard on the nose at all, which, if you’re wondering, is why I had to leave the world of scent-blending behind. It became sensory overload for my very sensitive sense of smell. It’s taken me a few years to be able to wear scent again, and I can only wear those that are not too overpowering. So, yes, I definitely recommend the Artisan Cherry Vetiver, and look forward to trying the Artisan Santal Musk.

Another amazing thing about the Artisan Parfums is that they are unisex aromas, so you can gift either of these to anyone this season, including yourself.
