That’s exactly what I told myself while looking in the mirror a while back.
Hey everyone! How are you? Excited to get back to work? I know I am! I had fun over the holiday, but have been eager to get back to my fun stuff here.
But yeah, I had to have that conversation with myself. We all know that immobility leads to sagging, and that includes our faces. I know that for me, I’ve always loved exercising, but recently, with the changes going on within me due to menopause, I sometimes do not have the motivation I used to, to get myself moving. BUT, after that OMG moment looking in the mirror, I found anewed motivation. I have also been inspired by others my age to get my exercise bike back out, and get myself toned up. So yay! I hope I can also help inspire someone else out there that may need a friendly push to keep on workin’ it, even when you may not feel that into it.
So, let’s get going on exercising that gorgeous face. You know what they say, move it or lose it!
Here are a few of my favorite exercises to do daily. And as with most things that I do, I love to multi-task, so some of these will also exercise your neck and arms at the same time.
The first one I like to do, kind of like a warm-up, is very simple. You can do this exercise, and all of them really, either sitting down or standing up, and I like to sometimes do these while riding my exercise bike.
I do not have names for these exercises, so for this one I’ll call the O-E Exercise. This is for your cheeks as well.
First purse your lips into an exaggerated “O” shape:
Then change to a very wide “E” shape:
I know this looks funny! Haha! But I can really feel the muscles in my face and neck area being stretched and exercised when I do this. I do this exercise about 12 times. And with it looking so funny, it may also lift your spirits and make you laugh – or make others laugh!
The next exercise I like to do is for my neck area. It’s basically opening and closing your mouth, but while stretching your neck upwards.
Just stretch your neck upwards and pull your bottom lip up. I can really feel my neck muscles being worked with this one.
I’ve always heard that a woman’s neck shows her age, so yeah, get those neck exercises in with your facial exercises.
The great thing about these exercises is that they’re not strenuous and you can do them anytime, and practically anywhere, and they do not take a lot of time. So, no excuses Jfay!
Okay, let’s get some more physical action going – not strenuous, just more active.
Let’s stretch those arms out…
S t r e t c h from side to side. Slowly… Really stretch your neck while you’re doing this, from one side to the other. You will feel those side neck muscles getting worked out with this one. I’m hoping this one will help with the side jowls as well, because I can feel it pulling my muscles all the way up to my chin area. I sometimes add an extra stretch to this one for my face by opening and closing my mouth while in this position. I can really feel it in my chin area then. Kind of a side mouth stretch. This helps get the blood flowing too.
Now, I’m going to stretch up and down.
Stretch those arms up to the ceiling, and your head up as well, with your neck stretched.
Then bring it all down.
Having fun yet?
No.. don’t look up! Haha! Although, that could be another angle to stretch from. 🙂 But, I basically go straight up and down like this several times. It exercises my neck and the back of my upper arms (which can always use the exercise, if you know what I mean.).
So, there you have it! Those, for right now, are my favorite easy go-to daily face, neck, and upper arm exercises. I may add more to my routine later, but I am enjoying doing these, and have been able to fit them into my schedule easily. Plus my bike riding! I’m very proud of myself for making sure to ride my bike as well, practically every day. I’ve had to miss a few days during the holiday, but that’s not too bad. I’ve been riding a mile, a mile and a half, and sometimes 2 miles a day now. Hooray!
Another thing I wanted to mention to you about keeping that gorgeous face and neck look fabulous and youthful, is to also try to make moisturizing a daily habit as well.
