Girlfriend, You Need to Exercise Your Face!

That’s exactly what I told myself while looking in the mirror a while back.

Hey everyone! How are you? Excited to get back to work? I know I am! I had fun over the holiday, but have been eager to get back to my fun stuff here.

But yeah, I had to have that conversation with myself. We all know that immobility leads to sagging, and that includes our faces. I know that for me, I’ve always loved exercising, but recently, with the changes going on within me due to menopause, I sometimes do not have the motivation I used to, to get myself moving. BUT, after that OMG moment looking in the mirror, I found anewed motivation. I have also been inspired by others my age to get my exercise bike back out, and get myself toned up. So yay! I hope I can also help inspire someone else out there that may need a friendly push to keep on workin’ it, even when you may not feel that into it.

So, let’s get going on exercising that gorgeous face. You know what they say, move it or lose it!

Here are a few of my favorite exercises to do daily. And as with most things that I do, I love to multi-task, so some of these will also exercise your neck and arms at the same time.

The first one I like to do, kind of like a warm-up, is very simple. You can do this exercise, and all of them really, either sitting down or standing up, and I like to sometimes do these while riding my exercise bike.

I do not have names for these exercises, so for this one I’ll call the O-E Exercise. This is for your cheeks as well.

First purse your lips into an exaggerated “O” shape:

Then change to a very wide “E” shape:

I know this looks funny! Haha! But I can really feel the muscles in my face and neck area being stretched and exercised when I do this. I do this exercise about 12 times. And with it looking so funny, it may also lift your spirits and make you laugh – or make others laugh!

The next exercise I like to do is for my neck area. It’s basically opening and closing your mouth, but while stretching your neck upwards.

Just stretch your neck upwards and pull your bottom lip up. I can really feel my neck muscles being worked with this one.

Neck Exercise

I’ve always heard that a woman’s neck shows her age, so yeah, get those neck exercises in with your facial exercises.

The great thing about these exercises is that they’re not strenuous and you can do them anytime, and practically anywhere, and they do not take a lot of time. So, no excuses Jfay!

Okay, let’s get some more physical action going – not strenuous, just more active.

Let’s stretch those arms out…

Jfay’s Beauty Blog

S t r e t c h from side to side. Slowly… Really stretch your neck while you’re doing this, from one side to the other. You will feel those side neck muscles getting worked out with this one. I’m hoping this one will help with the side jowls as well, because I can feel it pulling my muscles all the way up to my chin area. I sometimes add an extra stretch to this one for my face by opening and closing my mouth while in this position. I can really feel it in my chin area then. Kind of a side mouth stretch. This helps get the blood flowing too.

Now, I’m going to stretch up and down.

Stretch those arms up to the ceiling, and your head up as well, with your neck stretched.

Then bring it all down.

Having fun yet?

No.. don’t look up! Haha! Although, that could be another angle to stretch from. 🙂 But, I basically go straight up and down like this several times. It exercises my neck and the back of my upper arms (which can always use the exercise, if you know what I mean.).

So, there you have it! Those, for right now, are my favorite easy go-to daily face, neck, and upper arm exercises. I may add more to my routine later, but I am enjoying doing these, and have been able to fit them into my schedule easily. Plus my bike riding! I’m very proud of myself for making sure to ride my bike as well, practically every day. I’ve had to miss a few days during the holiday, but that’s not too bad. I’ve been riding a mile, a mile and a half, and sometimes 2 miles a day now. Hooray!

Another thing I wanted to mention to you about keeping that gorgeous face and neck look fabulous and youthful, is to also try to make moisturizing a daily habit as well. It can be very simple and not take much time to do, especially with this new line of moisturizers I’m about to show you. Which, I did a blog post just a while back about Physiogel. I love this so much, and it is now my favorite moisturizer.

I cannot laud this nearly enough. It is so fabulous. This humble looking moisturizer is designed to repair, restore, and hydrate your skin. It is made for dry, sensitive skin, and feels so wonderful.

Here’s what Avon has to say about Physiogel:

Our Physiogel BioMimic Technology contains lipids that are similar to those found naturally in skin that help repair and strengthen skin’s moisture barrier, restoring the hydration your skin needs to stay strong and visibly healthy.

I use this on my face and neck twice daily. It smooths into my skin quickly and does not leave any greasy residue, so it’s perfect under makeup as well.

Avon has a full line of this product. For your face, your body, and for facial cleansing. Here’s a link for you to read more about it, and see all the products in this line. And with our new Campaign 2 right now, you will receive a free gift of a trial size facial cream with any Physiogel purchase. I’ll be getting mine for sure! Here’s a link to the new Brochure’s Physiogel page 1. Just click the side arrow to browse the pages.

And there you have it – some of my very favorite self care tips for my face and neck area. I hope this helps get you inspired and motivated too. Always take time for you, and take good care of yourself. It’s never too late (or early) to begin a great skincare and exercise regimen.

If you give Physiogel a try, let me know how you like (I mean, love) it!

Till next time, stay fabulous and follow your joy!

Tips and Tricks for Down-Turned Lips

Having an issue with down-turned lip lines? Let’s see if we can work a little makeup “magic” to help camouflage, or at least deter that feature from being a head-lining act. What do you say?

Having down-turned lips and lip-lines can occur at any age, and may be the beautiful way God created you, so there’s nothing to feel badly about. But, we do have a few tools in our kit, so to speak, to help our down-turned lips not look like a big frown when we’re wanting to wear bright lipsticks out on the town.

So, let’s go!

We’ll begin with our prep:

Step 1 – Moisturize those gorgeous lips! I’m using Avon’s Moisture Therapy Lip Treatment. It’s perfect to keep my lips moist without being greasy, so I can wear it underneath my lipstick.

Step 2 – You’ll want to have some liquid concealer, preferably with a wand. I’m using Avon’s Cashmere Complexion Longwear Concealer in Cheesecake. This has a soft focus matte finish, and is also water resistant.

Step 3 – Simply draw upward with your concealer wand along the outside corner of your lips. We’re looking to help cancel out that downward look of our natural lip line.

Step 4 – Use a slightly damp makeup sponge to blend. I already had on my foundation, so this is done atop your already-in-place foundation makeup. You can set this with powder after application.

Next, let’s apply our lip color products:

Avon Lipsticks

Step 1 – You’ll need your favorite lip lining pencil. For this look, I’m using Avon’s Ultra Luxury Lip Liner in Currant.

Step 2 – And this is where some of the magic comes in. I am lining my lips all the way to the (inner) corners, but rather than following my natural lip line to the outermost corner, I am going to move inward a bit, and not stay right on my natural outer lip line (in the corner areas – top and bottom). If I were to follow my natural lip line to the outer edges, my lips would appear to be even more drastically down-turned, kind of like a clown’s frown. It takes a little bit of practice to get used to not lining right on the outer ridge of your natural lip line, but you’ll get it! And I always like to fill in my lips with my liner. It helps with color depth and a longer wearing lipstick.

Step 3 – Choose your favorite lipstick! You do not have to be afraid of going dark and dramatic now. We’re keeping those lips looking more upturned now. I’m going all out wearing Avon’s True Color Nourishing Lipstick in Candy Red.

Step 4 – Apply your lipstick within the lines of your lipliner. Be careful at the corners not to go all the way to the very outer corner area.

And you’re ready to go! Woo Hoo! Have fun!

But before I let you go, I’ll share my very favorite and top, top, top #1 tip to help down-turned lips: S-M-I-L-E!!

That works every time!

Till next time, stay fabulous, follow your joy, and always smile!
