Oh, you know you’ve still got it! And with the help of some wonderful friends, we can still show it!

When I speak of friends, it’s our little makeup helpers that can really make a huge difference in how we present our beautiful selves to the world.

I am doing this before and after makeover series at the age of 56, showing my no makeup natural self, so that I can hopefully encourage you to look and feel your very best, always, no matter your age. Hey, if I can do it, then definitely, so can you!

I will tell you right away before getting started, that I prefer an easy skincare and makeup routine. I do not like to take a million steps to get myself put together and ready to go, so if you’re like me, you may really relate to my particular style of beauty routine and products that provide the coverage I require, perfectly and easily.

I know parts 1 and 2 are backwards, but I didn’t think you’d appreciate looking at me through one complete series without any makeup, so I completed my foundation first then went back to show my skincare products and share my routine.

I just told you that I do not like to take a million steps to put myself together, so I really look for a foundation that has great coverage so that my skin looks flawless and gorgeous in 1 step. Cashmere Complexion does that for me. I normally use the Cashmere Complexion Compact Powder Foundation only, but decided to give the liquid formulation a try, and I really love it. I’m still using the Compact Powder Foundation as well, you’ll see in minute.

I really like the application wand. I just dot it all over (my cleaned and moisturized face – I cover that in Part 2), and then distribute and blend with a dampened sponge.

You can see that it gives me full coverage in just one sweep. My skin tone is evenly balanced. All my ruddiness is eased immediately. This is a very light formula. It doesn’t feel like I have anything on my skin. It’s really beautiful and fresh feeling.

I use shade Shortcake (C) #715-466. There are color charts to help you find your perfect shade based on your skin’s undertone – Cool, Warm, or Neutral, plus your skin color – Light, Medium, Dark.

Now, after I apply my Longwear Foundation, I always like to set with a powder, and there is none better (in my opinion), than my dear friend Cashmere Complexion Compact Powder Foundation.

I love this so much! And you know what? I really like using the combination of the Longwear Liquid along with the Compact Powder Foundation as a great finishing touch. This can be worn as a foundation (damp or dry) alone, so it is not flaky or dry, and it has awesome coverage on its own, so hey, super flawless looking skin is a very achievable end result – and very quickly too.

If I’m in an extra big hurry, I just grab my Powder Foundation and give my face a quick once over and I look great to go.

Let’s Talk Makeup Foundation for Mature Skin

How’s your relationship with you makeup foundation? Feeling good about it? Loving how it looks on your skin? I know for me, I like full coverage that is flattering and looks natural. How about you?

I’d like to share my favorite with you today. It’s Avon’s new FMG Cashmere Complexion Compact Powder Foundation. This formulation is like magic. It’s very lightweight, and not really “visible” as a full coverage makeup (as in harsh and cakey), because it is so light.

Look at my skin before makeup foundation application. I definitely can use some help to even my skin tone.

Of course the very first thing I do to prep my skin for makeup is to exfoliate and moisturize. I do not exfoliate every day. About 3 times a week. I love Avon’s Collagen Boost duo. You need to read my blog post about this pair. Soooo fantastic. My skin feels like silk after I use this set. I then moisturize with my new favorite moisturizer Physiogel Daily Moisture Intensive Cream. Wonderful, wonderful product and great for very dry and sensitive skin. I’ve also blogged about this product. For this makeup post, just a quick pic and link for you to take a peek at for yourself.

Okay, so skin’s fully prepped. Which, a quick note, I usually exfoliate and use the Collagen Booster ampules at night, so then the next day, right before I apply my foundation, I only use the Physiogel. Okay, let’s get that face looking gorgeous!

Applying Cashmere Complexion Powder Foundation. It's so easy to apply. You can apply it wet or dry, or both. It's a full coverage foundation yet very light. — **Applying Cashmere Complexion Compact Powder Foundation**

With the Cashmere Complexion Compact Powder Foundation, you can apply this wet or dry, or both. I usually do both. I use a separate makeup sponge (dampened), swirl that around in the compact, and then apply. This gives a great full coverage look. I then go back over it with the sponge that comes with the compact, either right after I apply the damp makeup, or after I’ve applied my blush, as a once over finish. As you can see in the picture above, as soon as I begin applying this, my face looks so much better, and so much more even-toned. I sometimes only apply this dry, especially if I’m in a hurry or if I’m not going anywhere that I need to get really fixed up for – like curbside pickup for example. But putting it on dry still gives me a very full coverage, and it’s so light that it just feels like my skin and not a lot of goopy makeup. It’s amazing. I love this so much I cannot even tell you. I suppose you can see by how much I’ve used in this compact already. I need to re-order so that I do not run out.

Looking fabulous dah’ling! This is my new best friend! I think it looks very natural, just like it’s my skin. Not heavily made up, which tends to age the look of our skin, but rather that my skin is just naturally flawless.

Tips and Tricks for Down-Turned Lips

Having an issue with down-turned lip lines? Let’s see if we can work a little makeup “magic” to help camouflage, or at least deter that feature from being a head-lining act. What do you say?

Having down-turned lips and lip-lines can occur at any age, and may be the beautiful way God created you, so there’s nothing to feel badly about. But, we do have a few tools in our kit, so to speak, to help our down-turned lips not look like a big frown when we’re wanting to wear bright lipsticks out on the town.

So, let’s go!

We’ll begin with our prep:

Step 1 – Moisturize those gorgeous lips! I’m using Avon’s Moisture Therapy Lip Treatment. It’s perfect to keep my lips moist without being greasy, so I can wear it underneath my lipstick.

Step 2 – You’ll want to have some liquid concealer, preferably with a wand. I’m using Avon’s Cashmere Complexion Longwear Concealer in Cheesecake. This has a soft focus matte finish, and is also water resistant.

Step 3 – Simply draw upward with your concealer wand along the outside corner of your lips. We’re looking to help cancel out that downward look of our natural lip line.

Step 4 – Use a slightly damp makeup sponge to blend. I already had on my foundation, so this is done atop your already-in-place foundation makeup. You can set this with powder after application.

Next, let’s apply our lip color products:

Step 1 – You’ll need your favorite lip lining pencil. For this look, I’m using Avon’s Ultra Luxury Lip Liner in Currant.

Step 2 – And this is where some of the magic comes in. I am lining my lips all the way to the (inner) corners, but rather than following my natural lip line to the outermost corner, I am going to move inward a bit, and not stay right on my natural outer lip line (in the corner areas – top and bottom). If I were to follow my natural lip line to the outer edges, my lips would appear to be even more drastically down-turned, kind of like a clown’s frown. It takes a little bit of practice to get used to not lining right on the outer ridge of your natural lip line, but you’ll get it! And I always like to fill in my lips with my liner. It helps with color depth and a longer wearing lipstick.

Step 3 – Choose your favorite lipstick! You do not have to be afraid of going dark and dramatic now. We’re keeping those lips looking more upturned now. I’m going all out wearing Avon’s True Color Nourishing Lipstick in Candy Red.

Step 4 – Apply your lipstick within the lines of your lipliner. Be careful at the corners not to go all the way to the very outer corner area.

And you’re ready to go! Woo Hoo! Have fun!

Say Merry Christmas to You! Treat Yourself and Try Something New

Hello everyone! How are you doing? I hope you’re enjoying your Holiday Season.

And while you’re enjoying your Holiday Season, I wanted to remind you to be sure to treat yourself. I know a lot of you are probably busy getting things all set for everyone else in your life, but make sure to take time to say Merry Christmas to you.

It really did a world of good for me! I fell in love with Pixie Cuts when Katy Perry was sporting one, but was a bit timid about going that short. I’m so glad I did. Beautiful Brow Techniques

Hello! How are you today? Ready to get those brows going on?

I know I am! Learning to do my eyebrows has been a very fun journey for me. I’ve enjoyed learning about different brow products and brow techniques.

I’ve always had very prominent brows and never really had to use anything other than something to hold them into place, but you know how it is as we mature and things begin to change…

Upside is, we can always learn new things, and learn how to keep our beauty as brilliant as ever!

To begin this journey, I first went to my Avon website and learned about the different types of eyebrow products available and ordered several that appealed to me. The good thing about eyebrow products (at least Avon’s), is that they’re not really expensive, so it is great to get several products to try out.

I’ll go over the different products that I tried for my new look and tell you their price points as well. But first, I’ll share with you the techniques I’ve been learning along the way too. I’ve been watching YouTube videos and reading how-to’s, and practicing.

Here are a few of the first steps to begin with:

Ahead of time tip: Tweeze and keep your eyebrow hairs trimmed. I trim my eyebrow hairs by brushing them upward and then taking my shears and trimming them at the top so that there are no long hairs going crazy.

Then, when you’re ready to do your eyebrow makeup, you will want to brush your brows with your brow brush and have them smooth and ready for product application.

You can measure where your eyebrows should begin, arch, and end, with your eyebrow brush or a pencil. Begin at your nostril – place your pencil upward. This is where your eyebrow should begin. Then from your nostril, halfway through your eye, to find your natural arch, and then from your nostril to the outer corner of your eye, is where your eyebrow should end.

To begin, start by outlining how you want the shape of your eyebrow to be. If you’re not sure, this is where practice makes perfect. Just be patient with yourself and try a little color at a time till you’re comfortable with the amount of product, and the size brow that you think look best for you. This is what took me a little while to to get used to. But I am getting more and more comfortable with having a finished brow look, and am really enjoying it.

I will tell you my favorites, and what I used each for.

Firstly, I really like the Ultra Luxury Brow Liner because it is a very fine-pointed pencil and I can resharpen it, and keep it that way. I like using it for outlining. I can get the perfect definition cleanly using this pencil, and it goes on very easily with no tugging. Do not draw with a straight, precision line though, just kind of lightly flick the pencil on to look more natural.

I like using both the Glimmerstick Brow Definer and the Tattoo Station Brow Pencil as well. They are not quite as thin a point, so they are great for filling in. When I decided to fill in an area underneath the front top of my brow that needed to be colored in and blend with the rest of my brow, I found that the Glimmersticks worked best for this job. I ordered the Tattoo Station Brow Pencil and Glimmerstick in different colors – One is more black/gray and the other more taupe/brown. I like to use them both since my hair is different colors too.

For the Pomade. It goes on very well and is brushable. I personally am not ready to use the little brush that comes with it to draw on an outline or fill in with it, at least till I get a bit better with my technique probably. If you’ve had more experience than I, you will most likely love this formulation. It is waterproof and has a 24 hour wear time. I’m going to keep practicing with this one. It has very good pigmentation, and the color I chose is a brown/gray. Perfect for my hair color.

The last step in completing a brow look is to use the spoolie end of the brow brush to gently blend and soften the product(s) used on the brow. You can do this as you go as well. If you blend too much, you can always go back and add more color where needed. But if you like it just the way it is, omit this step. It’s all about what you think looks pretty on you.

I have to tell you that after I finished my brows, I felt more spunky! I put on some darker lipstick, a bit more eyeshadow, fluffed my hair, and put on my earrings. It changed my whole attitude.

And to me that’s what makeup is all about anyway. Enhancing our natural beauty, and making us feel great. I know that when I feel like I look good, I feel good. It really changes my mood, for the better.

I was just talking with my sister last evening about getting my Makeup Room spruced up and ready for more in-depth photography, and told her, “You know, I’m about to turn 56 and I’m setting up to do even more makeup photography and blogging.” That’s really amazing. It just dawned on me – my age. I am very thankful that at 55 I’m still enjoying makeup and wanting to look my best – and to keep learning new things in the makeup field. It’s never to early or too late to celebrate our beauty, to appreciate it, and to work to preserve and highlight what we’ve got. I so admire those that are even more mature than I, and seeing them still shining in all their glory, and not giving up at any certain age on being the best that they can be, and that’s what I strive for as well, and to hopefully inspire others along the way.

I told you I’ve been working on my eyebrow game. I’m getting pretty good at it, and plan to share what I’ve been learning with you very soon. I have (4) different products that I’ve been trying out, so stay tuned! I’ll also be sharing with you again my experience using the new Cashmere Complexion Makeup Foundation and Concealer. The Powder Foundation is to die for ladies, it covers so well, and yet looks so fresh. I am loving how my makeup looks even more now than ever before.

Celebrating Beauty Over 50!

I love the phrase Over 50 and Fabulous! It’s such a wonderful milestone in a woman’s life I believe. To reach the age of 50 (and beyond), and feel awesome, and feel like you’re still looking pretty awesome too. We’ve raised our families and are now on a new journey. It’s pretty spectacular.

I’ve partnered with a couple of my Avon Teammates to celebrate the fact that we are over 50 and pretty darn fabulous, and to say a huge Thank You to Avon for being part of the beauty in our lives, inside and out.

I’d like to introduce you to these stunning ladies. First is one of my Avon Mentors, Keely Johnson.

Keely is a very youthful 57 yrs old and has been using Avon skin care for about 15 yrs now.

Keely says, “People always tell me that I don’t look 57. Thanks Avon!!! I use all the Avon skin care and Avon makeup. I switch it up and use different things on different days. Here are some of my favorites. I am 55 and have been an Avon skin care fan since I was 12. My first Avon memory is during a church trip I took along with some older teenage girls. They were impressed that I was using a skin care regimen at my age, and that made a real impression on me since I looked up to them.

I now enjoy using some of Avon’s newest skin care items. I absolutely love the Avon x The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Foaming Cleanser and the Avon x The Face Shop The Therapy Oil Blending Cream. I also love the Green Goddess Facial Oil.
